For Women in Tech Week, we are taking the time to celebrate some of the amazing women working here at Rapita. In this interview series, we will discuss why they love working in technology, what drives them, and the challenges they have faced along the way.
In this blog we will be talking to Hannah Jolly, Senior Technical Writer, about the surprising way that her communication skills have been utilized, what goes on behind the scenes of tutorials and why seeing women in tech matters so much.
How long have you worked in the Technology industry?
7 years at Rapita (and in the tech industry!)
What is your favourite part of working in tech?
Every day is a school day! New knowledge and new skills.
How would you describe your job in three words?
Make RVS easy.
How has your role grown or changed since you started?
As my familiarity with the products and the ways in which they’re used have deepened over time, I’ve become more involved in the design and development of new features long before they reach the stage where user documentation is able to be written.
What's something about your job that people might not expect?
The complexity behind the scenes of some of our built-in user help resources, particularly how the integrated RVS tutorials work under the hood.
Which project are you most proud of?
Helping to set up a standardised training course for new RVS users.
What skills do you use most, and have any surprised you?
Communication skills for the most part, including doing voice-overs for marketing videos (very surprising!)
What do you think would encourage more women into tech?
The main thing that would encourage more women into tech roles is, more women in tech roles!
It sounds obvious, but the more women you see in tech (from schooling, all the way through university and beyond), the more likely you are to feel on an instinctual level that this is a place you can belong in.
Thank you to Hannah for sharing your story.
